2023년, 장인어른이 혈관성 치매 진단을 받았습니다. 어느 날까지 가족 모두의 생일을 기억하시던 분이, 다음 날에는 동네 가게에서 집으로 돌아오는 길을 잃으셨습니다.
아내와 저는 몇 주 동안 무엇을 해야 할지 몰랐습니다. 밤마다 부엌 식탁에 앉아 노트북을 펴고, 답이 없는 시설에 전화를 걸고, 홈페이지와 전혀 다른 곳들을 직접 찾아다녔습니다.
가장 힘들었던 건 선택지가 부족하다는 점이 아니었습니다. 정보가 명확하지 않다는 점이었습니다. 좋은 시설은 분명 있었지만, 자신 있게 비교하고 결정할 방법이 없었습니다.
